Big PPSC group makes it to Arden Taylor Ventura Contest this year
PPSC was well represented at the Ventura Surf Club’s Arden Taylor Surf Benefit held March 14-15 at “C” Street in Ventura . A total of 17 club members attended the event which raises funds to help a fellow surfer, Mike “Fish” Fisher, who is fighting cancer.
Most of the team arrived early enough on Friday to get a surf session in. The waves were waist high and conditions were glassy. After the Friday surf session 15 of us went to dinner at a German restaurant at Asi’s recommendation. It was a hit as the PPSC team basically took over the restaurant. The food and service were excellent.
Throughout the weekend the surf remained waist to shoulder high. Tide played a big role in the quality of the waves in the contest. The water was warmer than our home break and the rocks were reminiscent of Boat Docks (OUCH!).
Joel Baldwin, Shawn King, Bill Patchett, Dave Rodriquez and Izzy all competed in the Seniors Division (50-59). Shawn and Bill made it to the quarterfinals. Izzy made it to the semi-finals. Joel made it to the finals and finished 3rd. Bob Livingston surfed in the Mens Division (35-49). He was in a tough heat and did not advance. Greg Cochran advanced to the Legends (60-69) finals and finished 3rd. Karen Cochran, Asi Ghiassi, Krista Howell and Stephanie Phillips all surfed in the Womens Division (30 and up). Krista made it to the semi’s and just missed making the finals. Congrats to all for a great effort!
Not surfing in the contest but cheering the team on were Robyn King, Shelly and Catrina Patchett, Anita Rodriquez, Marybeth Livingston and Glenn Stenstrom.
